While I'm not a huge fan of all the content found within Down and Out the writing is spot on. Sam doesn't fall back on any lazy 'punk' form like a lot of other zines, which seem to be free of any real literary effort and clearly no attempt at editing. Sam in contrast, obviously expends a lot of effort here, and reminds you that this is a written publication, with a focus on well.. the written word. A refreshing read, informed from an authentic outsider perspective on underground and abrasive music. Very high quality.

After releasing one of the best demos Australia's underground has seen in recent times, and a 7" on RIP SOCIETY to boot, this is RED RED KROVVY's follow up. Somewhat of a sequel, these songs continue on from their previous efforts, but are certainly RRK's strongest yet. An East Coast band, comprising members originally from Cairns but now situated across Sydney and Melbourne. This is female fronted, 70s sounding rock 'n' roll that could easily have fit on the Murder Punk compilations. Although I'm not sure they care much for the comparison. Punk for rock 'n ' roll's sake. No bullshit here.

DISTRO: YDI 7"

Re-issue of this classic, YDI's one and only 7" from 1983. Although they did release an LP in '85 it wasn't nearly as good. This is one of the most vicious records you'll ever hear. Up there with the SIEGE recordings and the NIHILISTICS LP. Absolutely essential 80s US-hardcore re-issue, unlike some others of recent.

Not a debut 7" but still.. a decent review

SORRY STATE RECORDS:
Debut 7" from this Australian hardcore / power violence band on the great Helta Skelta Records. I admit that another power violence record is about the last thing on earth I want to hear these days, but this one is a banger... I tend to like my power violence full of weird changes, and Pathetic Human has those in spades. It's very math-y, with nary a chance to get a good fist-pump going before the band change things up completely and sling you into a completely different tempo, but with enough rawness that it doesn't feel like some kind of sterile tech-grind. It's tough to sound fresh in this genre, but Pathetic Human pull it off.
